Ceramatec has developed highly efficient, compact reactors and heat exchangers for extreme conditions. Based on three key technologies, these novel devices can be useful in many applications. These are:

  • Ceramic Materials – by nature, ceramic materials are durable to high temperatures and corrosive environments. This enables these devices to be operated beyond the limits of traditional metals and super-alloys.
  • Micro-channel Technology – by reducing the length-scale for which heat and mass transfer occur, these processes are very quick reducing the time and hence volume of these devices.
  • Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing – by using a Laminated Object Manufacturing method, micro-channels, fluid manifolds, and flow headers can be integrated into these devices. Scaling up a process is then a matter of numbering up or stacking up the common repeat units, a wafer.

Our ceramic micro-channel technology can be tailored for a very wide range of applications:

  • Heat Exchangers – The heat transport in micro-channels combined with the high temperature durability of ceramics enables compact yet scalable heat exchanger designs.
  • Materials Processing – The compact nature of micro-channels reduces the inventory of potentially corrosive or hazardous materials while the materials of construction are inert materials.
