Solid Electrolyte Oxygen Separation
(SEOS)
Point of use ultra high purity oxygen is produced with ceramic Ion Transport Membrane (ITM) technology. The membrane or solid electrolyte is 100% selective for oxygen ions resulting in ultra high purity gas. Oxygen purity of 99.9997% has been measured. Oxygen flow is precisely controlled by DC electric current which is used to pump oxygen ions thru solid membrane.
A conductive ceramic plate is used to provide electronic interconnection between electrolyte membranes. The raised pins on the interconnect plate provide gas flow pathways for the feed gas and oxygen product. The feed gas is typically air but can be other gases containing oxygen.
The pins also serve to transfer electronic current to the electrolyte membrane assembly; which consists of an electrolyte with electrodes on each side. Individual components are stacked and sealed to each other to make devices. This allows the stack size to be scaled to meet the oxygen flow required by the application.
Extensive long term testing has shown excellent stability and performance over the course of several years
Applications
Our SEOS technology can be tailored to provide ultra high purity oxygen for a very wide range of applications:
- Analytical equipment
- Semiconductor and electronics processing
- Chemical processing industries
- Fiber optics manufacturing
- Onsite/mobile oxygen generation in remote areas for military or civilian medical life support
- Welding
- Oxygen removal: for example argon and helium purification
- Combustion processes
Potential Markets
- All consumers of UHP oxygen cylinders
- Small volume UHP oxygen consumers particularly in remote areas far from readily available oxygen sources
